Can You Put A Large Flat-panel Tv On A Stand Designed For Smaller Tube Tvs?

At the moment I have a 32″ LCD TV on a TV stand that was designed for a tube TV of that size (We figured that out a little while after we bought it). Now I’d like to know if it would be possible to put a new 50″ plasma on that same stand, or would I need to buy a brand new stand for over $200?

  1. Sir says:

I have a 50-inch HDTV (Samsung PN50B550) sitting on a tv stand design for CRT tvs 32-inches on down and it hasn’t giving me any problems, so the above answerer is a liar. The reason for this is that flat panels tvs’ weights are light, so they won’t have no problem sitting on smaller stands.

Putting an LCD on a stand that is too small for it is just asking for trouble. Actually, I would not recommend the use of ANY stand, but especially not one which is too small. No LCD ever fell off a properly installed wall mount. They fall off stands all the time.

I would just make sure there is enough space for the base of the tv to fit on the stand and that the stand is sturdy with the tv on it
if it does not wobble and its unlikely in a spot to where it could get hit, then go for it
