Do 720p Or 1820i Pixel Resolutions Make A Difference With A 32 Inch Lcd Tv?

I’m currently in the market for a 32 inch LCD TV. (I’m not much of an expert.) I’ve heard that having a TV with a 720p pixel resolution under 1820i broadcasting (which most channels have) can cause poor scaling and may not have the best picture quality. So, I assumed it would be in my best interest to buy a TV with a 1820i pixel resolution. However, I also heard that 32 inch LCD TVs show no difference between 720p and 1820i pixel resolutions. Are those two statements both right or does one outweigh the other? Should I buy a cheaper 32″ TV with a 720p pixel resolution or a more expensive 32″ TV with a 1820i pixel resolution?

First it’s 1080i (or 1080p), not 1820. These refer to the vertical resolution.
Whether you can see the difference in a 32 inch set is debatable. You’d have to be sitting REALLY close to the set. If you normally sit 7 or 8 feet away, don’t waste your money on 1080.

It is generally agreed that 720P is fine for sets under 50″. If you want a 32″ set, you’ll find that nobody makes a 1080P set except for one model made by Sharp. The reason, at 32″ size, you don’t need 1080P.

Well, you might never have scaling problems if you get the 720P unit….you can always check it at the store by having them change it to Discovery HD Theater (HDT or HDTH on the guide)
And watch it for a half hour….
They are the DEFACTO STANDARD for 1080, and you will KNOW if your 720P TV set will have problems or not….
Circuit City is REAL good in setting up nice comparisons in their showroom so you get to know what’s true or not…..
