If you want the best sound you will need to run an external system. Buy your TV as if you were running it on mute and only worry about the picture. Then get some nice Boise audio equipment and really make a good entertainment system.
Well you will never get a better sound then even a 2.1 surround system, but if you are bent on no surround, look for samsung or sony or even toshiba. I owned an element and when above 50% volume, the spekers started to shake the tv gettting the plastic sound. The Samsung I have and the sony my friend has is great though. they have some Dolby Pro Logic/ DD so you can get a semi surrond feel
