If your projection TV is the old 4:3 (square) format, and you want a widescreen (16:9) picture of equivalent size, you should get a 50″ LCD. Probably the closest you can find is 52″. This will give you about the same picture height as the 42″ screen.

It all depends on your needs/tastes/budget. Be a little bit more specific about where your going to be using it. LCD TV’s most ideals sized for where your going to be using it. Personally…if your going to switch to a LCD, stick with a 40″ and up. The reason I say that sized is because a 40″ + gives you the ability to see very crucial detail on 1080p resolutions for High Definition content. It makes it future proof…meaning you wont have to upgrade again in the near future. Also, make sure it has these features:
*1080P (native resolution)
*Contrast ratio of (at least) 10,000:1 (remember contrast ratio…not dynamic contrast ratio)
*It is made by a quality brand such as: Sony, Samsung, LG, Panasonic etc. (I personally don’t trust Vizio or Sanyo)
That’s just about all…I’ll link you to a few of my preferences that you should consider.
