I Would Like To Connect My Laptop To A Plasma/lcd Tv. What Is The Difference Between Hdmi And Pc Input?

I am looking to purchase a 42 inch plasma/lcd tv that i’ll be able to connect to my samsung q210 laptop (which has a HDMI port). I connected it to my dads samsung tv just by using a hdmi lead, which worked but it wasnt using the full screen (does that just mean i have to change the settings?)
So should a tv with an HDMI port be the best way to connect or do i need a pc input on the tv? I would like to do this mainly to watch movies but also to browse occasionally.
Any help greatly appreciated!!

Hdmi port is the SAME as the PC input…All HD All Digital…
But having BOTH on a TV set is a smart thing to do..

  2. The D Man 2008 says:

Both should be sufficient for what you are using it for, but check with the TV it should state somewhere in the specifications what resolutions for each input it can take. (Supported Display Resolution)
If you go to the manufacturers website there will be a list of supported resolutions.
Then all you have to is match the resolutions with your Q210 normally on your computer it should have a list of what it can output.
Remember that HDMI is a digital signal and mapping of the signals will be much better and VGA is a analogue signal which will be of less quality.
I use HDMI for everything and images are always sharp and the colour is fantastic.

It will depend on your TV. Ill give you the pros and cons of each
The PC cable is called a VGA cable, it will give you full HD as long as your graphics card is up to it, it has a response time of 1ms, its down side is that the fastest it can refresh the TV is 60Hz (60 times a second) So if your TV is capable of 100Hz I wouldnt use VGA cable as your not getting the most out of your TV, 100Hz is important when watching movies especially.
and HDMI cable will give you full HD but can refesh the TV at 200Hz + but has a response time of 10ms so for gaming its bad but for movies it good, if you dont use games use an HDMI cable. Note it is difficult to get the screen resolution to fit correctly when using HDMI, a VGA cable is very easy.
Either one you go for make sure you get a gold plated cable you should be able to get a 2m cable of each for about US$40
