The final decision as to what type of flat panel television to purchase (LCD or Plasma) is really up to you here are pros & cons of each for your decision
Pros of Plasma
- Better contrast ratio
- better ability to render deep blacks, more color depth,
- better motion tracking (response time)
- more availability in very large screen sizes.
Cons of Plasma
- more susceptible to burn-in (although this is not as much of a factor now, due to technology improvements in the past few years)
- more heat generation (as well as more power consumption)
- screen glare in brightly lit rooms
- heavier weight, and more delicate to ship.
Good brand that I would recommend for Plasma is Panasonic or Samsunghttp://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?i…
Pros of LCD
- LCD television advantages include no burn-in susceptibility
- cooler running
- less screen glare, more functional at high altitudes
- longer display life (although improvements are being made in Plasma screen life)
- looks better in brightly lit rooms
- less power consumption than Plasma.
Cons of LCD
- Lower contrast ratio
- not as good rendering deep blacks
- not as good at tracking motion (although this is improving, especially with the implementation of 120Hz refresh rates (and some now offer 240Hz) on higher-end models).
Good brand for LCD that I would recommend is Samsung or Sonyhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?i…

It Depends on you.The basic difference between LCD and Plasma are as follows;
LCD TV consume less power than Plasma TV
Plasma Tv has greater viewing angles than LCD
Plasma TV has better contrast ratio and produce better colour of “Black”
LCD has better life than Plasma
In my opinion go for LCD.I am currently having LG Scarlett 42 inch.Price-Rs 65,000.I love the display quality. You can also go for cheaper such as LG 42LF20FR which is full High Defination.Price – Rs 50,000
Neither. Life span’s are determined by television technology type. They will vary from brand to brand and model to model. Each one is going to be different. Typical life spans are 40,000 hours on basic sets, 60,000 hours on most mid to early high level sets, and 100,000+ on top of the line sets.
Look to good brands like Panasonic, Sony, and Samsung primarily. They will all serve you well potentially. Sharp, LG, and Toshiba are also good considerations in the range you’re talking about.
A 42″ Panasonic Plasma S1 or G10 series are rated to 100,000 hours, just as an FYI.
I think a Samsung 5 or 6 series (or higher) and a Sony V or W series (or higher) would likely fall in around the same kind of life span as well. Though I haven’t seen specific numbers quoted for them.
