Please help, we can’t find the remote & manual, we need to turn on tv to program universal remote but cannot see any way to turn on tv without original remote! My little one has made off w/the remote and now we can’t find it!
Some universal remotes have a “search” function where you can search for your TVs code, even when you don’t know what that code is. You can use that to your advantage. Start searching for the code, the remote will start sending on/off signals to the TV and after a while hopefully it will send the right signal. In other words, in order to find the right remote code, “search” function would keep sending on/off codes of all the TV brands it knows. Hopefully one will match your TVs code.
Two caveats:
1) Universal remotes are hard to program, especially this “search” or “auto find” function — whatever they are calling it for your universal.
2) Some remotes send channel up / down instead of on / off. If the instructions tell you to hit channel up / down while searching that is not a good sign. You may want to pickup a universal remote that has a different search function. Alternatively, try pressing the on / off button ANYWAY at each try to see what happens.
