    Hi there
We purchased a 42in hd lcd tv two months ago. The first one we had we sent straight back as it was kind of grainy, not fuzzy, but just grainy in some scenes. The second one we had was the same, so the company came out to see what was wrong, as it was the second tv we had had. The engineer told us that it was ‘normal’ to sometimes get lines and grainy pictures. We were told to move further away if too close to the tv whilst watching and that we will soon get used to it! Like many others, we expected high quality and were disappointed. Also, because they are so thin, we found the sound very ‘tinny’ with not very much depth, especially the base, we bought a surround system to rectify this. It looks fab when it is off though as we bought the gloss black variety!!
Good luck, I shall keep watching this question to see if anyone can help me out too! :o )

well, it depends on the type of cable that you are using. Regular coaxial cable hook up will probably give you pixelated and grainy picture as it would not filter out the ‘noise’ that is coming in from the signal.
To prove it, you can get a slightly better picture quality if you watch DVD via RCA (yellow, white and red).
The quality will improve more if you use components (red, blue, green, dont forget the red and white for the audio)
VGA and HDMI will eventually give you the best picture quality.
Indeed all the cables are only useful when you have the correct, compatible devices hook up using the correct cable.
Viewing distance could play some part in the viewing experience but the cable connections and hook ups are the major players. Good luck!

If you have a 42 inch television you need to sit about 20 feet away unless you have a high definition source playing on it. a screen that size close up in low definition will be blocky and grainy. When I used to sell these things for a living, I talked customers out of it if their living rooms were only 15 footers. I’m afraid you’ve become englamoured by technology that’s not much use to you. Our neighbours have got a 42 inch telly in a 17 foot living room. We can see in their window and we get an amazingly good picture from their telly- they wish they hadn’t bought it!
32 inches is the absolute maximum I would recommend for a small room, 28 is better, under that and you start getting too small for a living room set.

HDTV’s are like that. I’m guessing it looks pixlated? Sit further back to fix the problem or make sure you’re source is HD. Almost all TV broadcasts need to be “upscalled” for HDTV’s which gives the bad image impression when you’re too close. If you play a blu-ray or any other form of HD image on it you’ll notice the difference.
