It switches off whilst watching and goes to the samsung start up screen and then goes back onto the channel I was watching. It was a PC World re-conditioned one and is only 6 months old.

Hi before you go back to the shop undo the scart cable off the back and leave only the aerial plugged in if this cures the problem your scart device ie DVD might be switching the TV automatically over to ext1 and then returning to the channel when it switches off again.
Try this first please!
If it doesn’t work at least you can get the service man round knowing you tried this first!
Good luck
sounds like my computer got a mind of its own
Samsung 32″ LCD TVs have ickle men in the back of them. They MAY need feeding, ickle Jam Butties, and a Glass of Lucozade This DOES Work My Daughter put some in mine Jeeeezzz KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it seems the chip is short circuiting as reset triggers itself. it is an option only available to servicing engineer.
if you go to any pc-world they will give you a telephone number to arrange free service. as long as there is no water damage to tv they should not charge you anything.
take it back before the guarantee runs out
the problem moght be what i refer to as dry joint. If this is the problem it shudnt take the repair man more than half an hour to an hour o repair.
To explain the possible problem: As you might know the insides of the televison consists out of alot of circuit boards and so on. the connection, resistors and so are soldered onto the circuit board. It migh be that through age and expansion and contraction of weather and also the heat generated by the television, that one of those soldered joints have cracked and make a random connection when it feels like it. You might find that if you hiot the tv it works again. If it doesthat…then thats is deffo your problem.
It shouldnt cost too much to repair. good luck
Aside from it possibly being a fault as someone else siggested, try removing the batteries from ALL of the remote controls in the room where the TV is situated. I have had experience of low battery level causing just this effect, and not necessarily from the remote for the tv.
Also, if the startup menu comes up it may be that the tv is trying to auto tune from factory settings. This often occurs when peole don’t have an aerial connected, but just a cable or satellite box. The tv needs to do one scan for it to know there is no analogue signal available, otherwise it wants to start the setup wizard everytime it is switched on, and can go in an endless loop.
