I’m looking to buy a new TV 42 inch. At this size is LCD still better than Plasma. I do play some games I have an Xbox and an N64 for some retro Goldeneye fun (you cannot beat it!!!). I’m looking at either a Samsung or Panasonic can anyone advise??

LCD.
I’d go for the Samsung LCD personally.
Plasma is cool. But I’m not sure it’s so reliable.
I agree with Sbeastx , I’ve been looking at buying a new tv for a while now either LCD or plasma and have done a lot of investigation into both. In the end I went for a 42 inch Panasonic Plasma I have it in a low- medium light room and the picture and colours are stunning, also viewing angle seems much better on a plasma compared to the 42 inch LCDs that my siblings have.
Power consumption is not an issue, mine uses same as a 42 inch LCD. Also the plasma seems to have better response time on converting signal.
As for burn in, this only occured on plasmas when a static image was left on screen for long periods.
I play pc games via my laptop to the plasma and its fine, I was surprised at the quality of image.
I made my choice using the lighting factors, resolutions and also the colour quality, and I was lucky that I could compare to a philips and samsung 42 inch lcd.
But just remember, its a toss up between the 2 types – see if you can get a demo of both side by side in a showroom.
If you can afford it go for the sony bravia 42″ lcd its the best by far for an lcd. if not the toshiba 42wlt66 is very good also and has 1080i resolution.
go for lcd if you want to use it with a pc
if you watch a lot of sports go for gas plasma as some times the lcds struggle with fast moving images (except the sony bravia)
Up to 46″ lcd are far better. Above this some people say plasma have a very slight edge. If you intend gaming on it avoid plasma. The best on the market at present is the Sony Bravia range.
your right about LCD being better I would recommend samsung!.
but that’s me you chose whats best for you its your money your saving!.
I just solved my problem! I was going to buy a Panasonic Plasma 42 as they are sooo cheap now, BUT I was worried about screen burn and image retention due to PS2 games. Hence I managed to find a great deal on a Sharp Aquos 42. The picture is not quite as good as plasma BUT it is VERY good and I do not have any worries now and it has a 6ms response so it is the best 42 inch LCD around just now. So the screen lag is only half as noticeable as on other LCDs.
Lastly, you will also need a cinema sound package to enjoy best of everything when you move to large screen TV!!! ;/
lcd must be better more advanced
You’r all WRONG! LCD is best up to 36″, above that PLASMA is the best buy. They both use the same amount of energy, so running costs dont come in to it.
42″ and plasma should come in to its own, BUT, it also depends what light shines on to the screen! If bright light is being shone on the screen at most times, LCD is better because the colour will come through more.
If the screen is shaded, go for the PLASMA. And despite what people say, PLASMA screens do not have to be re-gased, as they are sealed units, FACT!
Hope this helps, and happy veiwing!!
No question about it, and they live longer AND use less juice!!!
I would go for a LCD, i hear that plasmas need servicing every few years but i cant say for sure.
these people knownothing and have no experience, i def. go panasonic plasma all the way you will be very happy with the picture quality. . or even samsung plasma they are great as well. no lcds the pictures are crap.
depends on the room’s lighting.
If the room where you want to install your tv is lighted with lots of windows, take LCD, if you can make the room dark whenever you want, go for Plasma.
Plasma has better quality, but LCD can be good in any lighting condition
Only one choice, L……..C……..D Panasonic, reliable and less heat……. which causes most TV faults in the end.
