It depends what you want to use it for.
Video games or PC-LCD
Fast pace images (Racing games, Sports, Action Movies) or Home Theater- Plasma
I own both but use my Plasma for everything because they hands down have a better picture. The only LCDs that have as good a picture as the same size plasma cost 30%-50% more than the plasma. The picture on the plasma will “dim” after 3-4 years, but it will only reduce to the quality of the LCD for the same cost.
LCD.
They last longer. They use less power and are more environmentally friendly meaning you will have lower electricity bills, a lot lower.
They cost a bit more but since they last longer it is worth the money.
In Australia the government are looking at banning Plasma’s because they have a tendency to explode. This has happened often enough that its a federal issue. Also because the running costs are high.
The image quality is better on an LCD also.
lcd had clearer picture and by far is the better tv.
I believe that the plasma display will dim on you sooner than the LCD screen. Look at contrast ratios, and viewing angle, and then go to a store and view the displays yourself and see which one you prefer.

DO NOT GET A PLASMA! they will stop working on february 28, 2009 all tv’s that do not have HD or is a plasma will stop working on that date and it isn’t fixable
Simple solution is the use of the TV
Plasma is better to view a fast moving image such as a movie or sport
LCDs are cheaper (generally) and less robust than a plasma
If you have kids I would recommend a Plasma but if you want to save a little bit of money than buy a LCD

It always depends on your application but Plasma usually has the best picture..
Plasma is rated to last as long (or longer) as LCD.
Feb 2009 has nothing to do with LCD vs. Plasma.
