What Lead / Leads / Cables / Cable Do I Need To Connect My Modern Laptop To A Modern Lcd Tv?

My laptop is an ACER 5720 with s-video port, firewire port, usb port and ethernet port. It also has 3 holes for sound at the front that are depicted by blue, red and black rings (holes size of small headphone jacks). They have symbols for microphone, headphones and what looks like a sound wave type image.
My LCD tv is a HD ready 32″ Regza model by Toshiba. It has loads of red and white slots for audio on back, a few hdmi slots, the 3 colour composite slots of red, yellow and white on the side and a serial port that i already have managed to use on “PC channel” to get laptop on screen but no sound. I think my LCD tv may have an s-video port?
I can get laptop on screen with serial ports but no sound or get sound on video channel by the 3 – colour cable using the headphone socket on laptop.
what is the definitive best all in one cable to do the job to the highest A/V quality and least fuss or cables. And if cable needs to be male/female ends etc.

Here is the deal. If your TV has an input for a PC VGA cable, then there should be at the very least, a stereo 1/8th inch jack right there with it, for the sound from a PC. Every TV with a PC connection has that, OR a programmable audio channel.
What’s a programmable Audio channel? Well, in some cases, you are able to take the audio from one input, and assign it to another… IN THE TV MENU SETTINGS. This would be where you could assign the audio plugged into input2, to accompany the video on hdmi4… or something similar. I worked on an Infocus 62″ TV that had that. When using the HDMI input for a signal from a computer, one had to patch the audio into another channel, then go into the TV settings, and tell the HDMI channel to use the audio from another source.
There is no Best All-in-one cable. With all those connections, haven;t you figured out there is no one standard?
SO, either use SVideo, or DVI-to HDMI, or just straight VGA…. and use the headphones out to send your audio to the TV. Just read your manual and follow the instructions from Toshiba. You are obviously missing the part where it tells you how to get audio from your PC.

    OK.
The laptop will definitely have some form of video output – probably VGA
here are some images of the cable and socket:http://dsnimg.dell.com/images/external/i…http://www.dcelectronics.com.au/store/im…
These should help finding out which port is which.
if the tv doesnt have vga, then use a vga to hdmi adapter, if you can find one
