Comparing contrast ratios between manufacturers is meaningless because they all use different measurement methods. Get professional reviews of the sets you’re interested in, like from the December Consumer Reports. You should have no problem getting a 32″ Sony for under $1000. BJ’s and others have the equivalent to the KDL-32S3000 for under $1000 and I’ve seen sales on the KDL-32S3000 also under $1000. It’s one of Consumer Reports top rated 32″ LCDs.
With your budget at 1000.00, you should be able to get a very good, top of the line, 32 inch set for that. Get the one with the highest contrast ratio as possible. You should also get one that is 1080p high definition. Go to a best buy, circuit city, or any good local electronics outlet where they are on display and make a good side by side comparison for picture quality. When you find the model you like best, research prices on the net and weigh the shipping and sales tax costs of buying from the web or buying locally and dive in and enjoy. Amazon has a good set for about 1000.00. Sharp Aquos LC32D62U 32″ 1080p LCD HDTV for $ 984.00.
The higher the contrast ratio, the better.
