I second the aquos recommendation. Sharp was the first to market with the TFT LCD back in the early 90’s and continues to have some of the best LCD technology. Since they usually keep the best stuff for themselves, the Aquos line benefits. Other brands that make their own panels are Samsung and Sony. Anyone else is likely to source the panel from one of the major OEM’s.
Be sure you get a panel with at least 1280×720 resolution (most Sharps are 1366X768), so that you can cleanly display 720P HD content and do a good job downscaling 1080i HD.
Interestingly, CNet did a showdown of 32 inch LCD tv’s, and the Sharp was not included. The top performer was Dell, which is likely to use either a Samsung or LG panel.

I love my Sharp Aquos 32″ LCD. The picture quality is great and wide viewing angle. It also has a cool remote with a very sleek design. You wouldn’t think the design of a remote should matter, but wait til you have to use it every day! I believe its one of the best LCD TVs in its class. Its pricier than comparable models from some no-name brands, but I found a good deal online.
