If you are a gamer, you risk burn-in with a plasma. I would go with the LCD. Preferably a Samsung :)

Depends how close you are sitting.
The further away, the bigger you'll want to be.
Plasma is more suseptible to burn in though, I'd personally get the LCD.

1080p LCD is hands down better, there is no question about it. What ever TV you decide on, just make sure its 1080p, 800$ is a little low for a good brand.
There are a lot of good brand HDTV’s out there, I like Samsung and LG the best, and right now I have a 49inch Vizio that is a decent TV, one thing I don’t like about it though is menu is extremely basic. You can’t even select the audio input separate from the video. I kind of wish I had waited for the 120 Hz TV’s to come down in price, now they are cheep as chips. I was just looking at Amazon, and their best selling TV is a Samsung, and its surprisingly cheep compared to BestBuy, which is 600$ more. Man! Best Buy is a RIPOFF. If you in the market for a new TV, Save yourself some money and buy online, Think of how many blu-ray movies you can buy for 600$. Plus there is free shipping and no tax.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001413…http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;…

An LCD TV is always better than a Plasma. Plasma picture will fade over time. LCD pictures remain bright, plus the one you describe is 1080P compared to 720P. If you really want the bigger screen, I would save up until you could afford the LCD of the size you desire, but I would definitely stay away from plasma. Stores are reducing the prices on plasma because they can't get rid of them. That should give you a clue right there.

The resolution largely depends on how close you'll sit to the TV. A 32" 1080p HDTV is meant to be viewed from just a few feet away. Go further and you start to lose the benefit of that extra resolution. Here's a chart...http://www.cnet.com/hdtv-viewing-distanc…
So if you're not sitting very close, then the extra resolution on the 32" TV won't do you much good, so go with the larger screen.
As for LCD vs Plasma, that's a loaded question, but they'll both look terrific, so go with the screen with the right size for your needs.

The 42" is bigger
The 32" has a better picture quality.
I would get the 42 inch one.
