On a 32″ TV you don’t need to get to wrapped up in all the fancy marketing technical specs. On TV’s under 40″, those things just don’t matter as much (if at all). The TV size doesn’t lend it self to showing the subtleties necessary to get the advantages from the various “better” options.
So that means you’re fine with a 720p TV, you don’t need a 1080p. You don’t need to worry about refresh rates (60Hz vs 120Hz). And you don’t need to worry about some giant oversized contrast ratio figure either. They just won’t make or break the quality of your viewing experience on your TV.
In the 26″ – 37″ range I think hands down your best image quality will come from a Panasonic LCD. I would look to their 32″ options to optimize the picture quality of your TV. They aren’t the cheapest, but they aren’t too bad in price.
Other than that, there’s Sony, Samsung, and Sharp. All three S’s make solid TVs. But they all have various levels of TVs, entry level to high end. So do your homework on any model that you’re interested in. With Sony I’d stay away from S series, with Samsung I’d stay away from 3 series (350 models). I think paying a bit more with both of those guys to move up just a bit can help your image quality then.
If you still need to look at more options, then look to LG or Toshiba. Both of them can also make decent models as well. But again, you want to look into each model.
Models I really like,
Samsung LN32A550
Panasonic TC-32LZ800
Panasonic TC-L32S1 (the X1 is okay as well, but I like the S1 more)
Sony Bravia KDL-32L4000
Toshiba Regza 32CV510
Vizio VW32LHDTV (I like the least, but if you need a budget option)
When you are decided to buy a 32″ lcd tv, make sure that you won’t spend more money for unnecessary features. One of them is Full HD. You can’t see the full detail of 1080p on a small screen like 32″. You got to have a tv of screen size more than 40″ to recognize the difference between HD Ready (720p) and Full HD (1080p). Also make sure that you are buying a tv that matches your room size as it will be comfortable to watch in a tv that suits your room size. The following link will help you a lot in understanding a HDTV, choosing one, optimising your HDTV. I bought a 32″ lcd tv with the help of the mentioned website only and I’ve no problems yet (one year ago).
